TakkStrip 2 uses the same technology as the original TakkStrip but with a new layout. TakkStrip 2 is easier to use in applications that require a panel or array of sensors. Compare the TakkStrip and TakkStrip 2 here.
TakkStrip 2 consists of 6 sensors end-to-end spaced at 8mm apart. Three sensors are cast together into an array and three are cast individually. Soldering pads on the underside of the TakkStrip 2 make wiring easy. A "traffic cop" microchip allows the entire strip to be accessed over I2C without address conflicts.
The layout of the TakkStrip 2 makes it perfect for applications that require a panel of sensors. Combine multiple strips to cover any surface you wish.
Put them where you want the TakkStrip 2 can be used as a single unit (useful for parallel-jaw grippers, fingers, bumpers, and more), or separated with a dremel into smaller sections or individual taxels that can be placed wherever your project requires.
If the chips are separated, soldering pads located on the back of the TakkStrip 2 allow easy soldering back to the traffic cop (indicated as "optional wiring" in the diagram above).
Up to 8 different TakkStrips (either the original TakkStrip or TakkStrip 2) can be attached to the same I2C network by setting their addresses using the "address pin" solder jumpers at the base of the strip.
The address is set in binary:
|O O O||sensors 0 - 4|
|O O X||sensors 5 - 9|
|O X O||sensors 10 - 14|
|O X X||sensors 15 - 19|
|X O O||sensors 20 - 24|
|X O X||sensors 25 - 29|
|X X O||sensors 30 - 34|
|X X X||sensors 35 - 39|
The strip is designed to work with voltages from 3.6 to 5V

The rubber used for cast boards is VytaFlex 20 from Smooth-On, Inc. We recommend using the same material if you want to cast additional structure (such as finger pads) over the sensors (clean the surface first with IPA or alcohol).
Rubber thickness of the cast boards is 3.5mm.
The sensitivity of the cast sensors depends on the stiffness and thickness of the rubber used, the location of the load over the sensor, and the type of rubber used.
Sensitivity plots for VytaFlex 20 rubber with thicknesses of 4mm, 6mm and 10mm can be found: [here]
Cast in Rubber — $149
Use as-is, or overmold into other structures like fingerpads (clean with ethanol and a Q-tip before casting). Bare boards available for same price upon request.

TakkStrip requires an I2C interface to read from a computer.
You can use an arduino or a USB dongle such as the CY3240 USB-I2C Bridge from Cypress (Digikey Part# 428-1910-ND).
For a higher-speed alternative see the TakkFast.
